DecadesOut, prepares for its latest and 4th installment of the Launch Pad Development Series of New Theatre this June.
The program is an integral part of DecadesOut's core mission. Through it, the organization has introduced many short and full-length plays. The mission of the Series is to give theatre artists (including writers and directors) a place to explore a piece's themes, ideas, and theatrical structures in order to help it reach the next level which could include a workshop or an initial production. Some plays have gone on to be fully realized in mainstage and festival productions.
The initial development process of the Series consists of readings and presentations. These are done in coordination with production companies and exhibition spaces in the hopes of introducing the work to a greater audience that could help it achieve full realization.
The work submitted came in many forms: traditional plays, performance pieces, digital presentations or interactive installations, but the work must always invoke science. “Science” can encompass many things: the laws and substance of science itself; the life of a great scientist or engineer; or a personal story of someone struggling to understand an event or time in his/her life that somehow implicates science.
Frank Kuzler, Executive Director, DecadesOut, says of the program: “It’s another example of how we are developing theatre and film projects based on socially relevant topics of a humanitarian and scientific nature.”
