Launch Pad Reading Series

Submit Your Work Now!!
Are you a writer with a new play you want to hear read aloud? Are you a director with a concept for a reinvented classic play? The Launch Pad is designed to offer theatre artists a forum to develop new work.

Still Accepting Submissions for 2009 and
Looking Forward to 2010!!

The Launch Pad is a FREE arts development program focusing on theatre. Submissions are open globally, and we encourage writers, directors and actors to submit both new plays and new visions of established plays. The only thing we ask (in keeping with our mission) is that the play invoke science.

What do we mean by science?
Inspiration comes from many sources. It can come from the life of a great scientist or engineer and a personal struggle they underwent in the pursuit of their ideals. It can come from a personal story of someone struggling to understand an event or time in his/her life which somehow implicates science. It can involve a field of scientific work, and the story or presentation could evolve around that. Etc. Etc.

Science and the theatre…What type of plays are we talking about here?
The range is wide open, but here are a few established plays that we like.
Dr. Faustus by Christopher Marlowe
Arcadia by Tom Stoppard
Faust by Goethe
The Life of Galileo by Bertolt Brecht
Angels in America by Tony Kushner
Copenhagen by Michael Frayn

What type of plays are we looking for?
We care mostly about how you’ve expressed what inspires you. How you communicate what you want to say. We are seeking all genres (comedy, drama, experimental, multi-media) full-length and one-act plays.

All we ask is that it’s connected to science.

How it works?
Selected pieces (3 full lengths and 6-shorts) will be presented over three days in a theatre or salon environment in front of a audience. DecadesOut will organize the production, design teams, casting, rehearsals, and presentation venue.

Of course, the presenting artists will take part in every aspect of the production to fully get the most from the experience. We welcome collaborations!!

After each presentation, there will be a panel discussion with the artists to learn more about their plays, their process, and inspiration for the play.
