DecadesOut, a New York-based nonprofit arts organization dedicated to raising public awareness of the impact and social relevancy that science has on the arts, culture and human expression, opened it doors to the public during the 18th Annual Gowanus Open Studios .

The annual event is presented by Arts Gowanus, a non-profit comprised of artists and arts organizations with a mission to support and strengthen the artistic community in Gowanus and foster the community’s relationship with its New York art-loving neighbors.

With over 230 artists and over 5,000 visitors, the Open Studios took place over the weekend of October 17-19th, and allowed artists working in the studio buildings in Gowanus to welcome the public to visit their studios, see their work, and talk about their process.

Frank Kuzler and DecadesOut were happy to be joined by some of their favorite collaborators, NACL (North American Cultural Laboratory) Theatre and its Weather Project, 3D visual artist Bruce Johanns and writer/director/artist Whitney Hamilton who revealed some of her latest oil paintings. At Gowanus Open Studios 2013 they featured BioArtist Joana Ricou, who showcased her “Surface Portraits” project.

Decades Out was thrilled to share its 2014-2015 season with over 500 visitors. Its 2014-2015 Systems Festival includes the Third Annual Science of Horror Film Festival, the Launch Pad Theatre Development Series, and the Documentary Film Lab. Events will also present work from filmmakers, visual artists, technologists, mainstream chefs and musical entertainers with panel discussions, exhibitions and live performance.  Numerous events highlighting the interactions between scientists and artists are being planned, including those with an educational focus in coordination with NY local schools.

DecadesOut looks forward to opening its doors again next year during the Open Studios.

About DecadesOut:
DecadesOut, a nonprofit organization founded in 2009, takes its name from the inspiring words of President John F. Kennedy, who in 1961 said “I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal before this decade is out of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to earth.”  The organization creates and promotes works that raise public awareness of the impact and social relevancy that science has on the arts, culture and human expression.  The group develops and produces works of fiction and nonfiction in film, theatre, visual arts and multimedia that look to transform the discourse between science and society through an artistic platform, and helps artists inspired by science to share their perceptions and explore socially relevant issues that speak to our existence.
